Where Could My Career Take Me?

Client Executive, Energy and Power Practice

I joined Marsh on the graduate scheme 10 years ago and for me it was a great springboard for my career.  I had finished my Masters in International Relations and didn’t really know which route to take next. A friend was enjoying their experience on the Marsh Graduate Scheme so I applied for it, along with a few other schemes. The Marsh recruitment day was one of the first I had. During the interviews, groups exercises, and tests, I particularly liked meeting the people from the business and listening to their experiences, so I took the job and have been here ever since!

I love that in my job there is no such a thing as a “typical day”!  As a Client Executive in the Energy and Power team, I’m responsible for managing large, global oil and gas companies and independents as well as leading a small team. Over the course of a day I can be speaking to clients, liaising with brokers on renewals, working with other areas of Marsh on client projects, managing issues and resources within my team, working on tenders, prospecting, and leading ad hoc team projects. Days are very busy and often very challenging, but the fact that no day is the same makes it so interesting.

Being a graduate within Marsh provided lots of opportunity to embed myself quickly in the business and be given responsibility and accountability early on in my career. There was also plenty of scope for training and development. Throughout the programme, we networked with senior management and benefited from valuable mentoring. Ultimately this culminated in a speedy progression in my career. I strongly believe that the same is still true for the graduates today.

I love managing the graduates in my team – they are enthusiastic, keen to learn, work hard, and are a great attribute to Marsh. The best advice I’ve ever been given at Marsh and I always pass onto graduates is that there is no such thing as a stupid question!
